We are located about 12 miles east of Kirkwall. New Lighthouse self catering cottage is on the B9050. The area is covered by the OS Landranger Map 6 (1:50000) and Explorer 461 (1:25000). Our national grid reference is HY581059.
From Stromness take the A965 to Kirkwall (approx 15 miles), pass through small village of Stenness and through Finstown. On approaching Kirkwall follow the signs for the airport and A960. Now follow the directions from Kirkwall.
From Kirkwall take the A960 (signed for Airport and Deerness). Continue past the airport. Eventually the A960 turns into the B9050. Drive past Deerness Stores (about 1 mile or 1.5km) until you come to crossroads, the house is on the left hand side of the crossroads.
From Burwick take the A961 to St Margaret's Hope. Now follow the directions from St Margaret's Hope.
From St Margaret's Hope follow the signs for Kirkwall (A961); cross all 4 Churchill Barriers. On leaving the 4th causeway/barrier, turn right onto the B9052 and continue towards Deerness. Join the A960 (turn right). Soon the A960 turns into the B9050. Drive past Deerness Stores (about 1 mile or 1.5km) until you come to crossroads, the house is on the left hand side of the crossroads.
Don't expect 24 hour petrol. There are garages in the larger towns that may stay open until 2200hrs (10 p.m.), rural garages tend to shut about tea-time.
